Our Story

It started in a garage. It became a movement.

Rush Athletics began with a simple idea: to create a place where athletes could work, grow, compete, and feel at home.

From the Garage

Before there was a facility, there was a garage. What started with my daughter, Mia Castillo, and a small group of athletes quickly grew into something much bigger — athletes who believed in Rush from the very beginning:

Many of those athletes are still active members of Rush today, making the journey even more meaningful. Mia, Joey, and Alan have gone from training in the garage to serving as assistant coaches at Rush, helping develop the next generation while continuing their own college journeys.

A Home for Athletes

That garage became the foundation of Rush Athletics. On July 5, 2021, we officially opened our doors. Since then, Rush has grown into a true Home for Athletes, training more than 500 athletes, from youth competitors and high school standouts to college athletes and professionals. Today, Evelyn and I are proud to own Rush Athletics and continue building the vision and culture that began in that garage.

Athletes We've Coached

Along the way, we've been blessed to work with countless incredible athletes. Each has made an impact in a unique way — creating unforgettable moments, raising the standard, and inspiring everyone around them to keep pursuing greatness:

What We Value

Still, Rush has never been defined only by names, records, scholarships, or accomplishments. It is defined by the hundreds of athletes who have walked through our doors, put in the work, challenged one another, and helped shape our culture. It is about showing up for each other, holding one another accountable, celebrating every breakthrough, and standing together through every setback.

At Rush, we believe talent is only the beginning. Consistency, discipline, effort, toughness, humility, and a commitment to improvement are what set athletes apart. More importantly, these values shape who we become beyond the field, court, or track.

Everything is earned. There is no offseason. We work hard, grow together, and never forget where we started. Athletes may come to Rush chasing a goal, but they leave knowing they are part of something bigger than themselves. Rush is more than a place to train. It is a family, a foundation, and a home that stays with you wherever life takes you.

The Rush Standard

One mindset. Six pillars. Unstoppable together.

It starts here

Mindset

The right mindset comes before anything. Think growth, stay positive, believe in yourself and your why.

Commit to the grind

Discipline

Discipline is doing what needs to be done, even when you don't feel like it. Gain control, develop unshakable habits.

See it. Believe it. Become it.

Vision

Vision gives you direction and purpose. See yourself living it, believe it's possible, and commit to becoming it.

When it gets hard, dig deeper

Grit

Grit is passion and perseverance. It's staying the course when things get tough and refusing to quit.

Bend, don't break

Resilience

Resilience is earned through every challenge you face. Adapt, recover, and keep moving forward — stronger each time.

Turn it all into action

Execution

Execution is where everything comes together. Take action, stay locked in, and make your vision a reality.

The Culture

Rivals on the field. Teammates in the gym.

On any given day, athletes from Alexander and United are training next to athletes from United South and LBJ. Nixon, Martin, and Cigarroa are in the mix too. Rivalries stay on the field — inside Rush, everybody's pushing everybody to get better. It's a culture that didn't exist in Laredo before, and it's what keeps 50+ athletes walking through the door every single day.

The Facility

Where the work gets done.

No A/C. High-energy music. Squat racks, sleds, assault bikes, and a full turf floor built for speed work — plus every Laredo high school's flag on the wall as a reminder of who's training here.

Fact: Rush Athletics has trained 500+ athletes, with 50+ in the building on any given day.
